Singapore, the hub of Asian business. While sandals or sneakers are the norm in the humid Asian climate, dress shoes are essential for business professionals. Particularly in Singapore, where many wear suits, the demand for leather shoes is higher than in neighboring countries.
Where there are leather shoes, there are inevitably shoe-shining shops. You'll find them on the street, inside stations, and as dedicated shops. Singapore is home to the world-renowned shoe shine and repair shop “Mason and Smith,” where gentlemen stop by to maintain their favorite bespoke shoes.
This time, I paid a courtesy visit to Mason and Smith, and here's my report.
Mason and Smith's Place
The location is about a ten-minute walk from Maxwell Station, where government agencies are concentrated. The surrounding area has the feel of a quiet residential neighbourhood and is an area with many stylish restaurants.
A very clean appearance. It exudes a refined atmosphere.

Unfortunately, I arrived rather early, so I could only report on the shop front, but I sensed a presence that leads the way in Asia's footwear scene.

The Stylish
Let's take a look at the shop floor. First, the displays featuring shoes and suits are particularly noteworthy. The shoes, in particular, are quite impressive.

Most of the items displayed below are by Yohei Fukuda. For example, these full-brogue elasticated shoes.

The Goroosh Oxford, representative of Yohei Fukuda.

Moreover, two colours.

The Adelaide shoes are also available. Their form is beautiful, embodying the very essence of Yohei Fukuda.

The shop itself is located on the second floor of this building, but the presence of the display case on the ground floor is truly remarkable.
This establishment offers shoe polishing with various finishes, as well as repairs such as toe cap replacements and heel adjustments. It's likely a go-to establishment for businessmen who travel the world, entrusting the maintenance of bespoke shoes made in various countries to this shop. Consequently, the staff understand the craftsmanship behind shoes like those by Yohei Fukuda and apply this knowledge to repairs, making this shop a repository of bespoke shoe expertise from around the globe.
I wanted to speak with the staff, so I intend to return for a second attempt next time.
Incidentally, the area around the shop also makes for a rather stylish walking route lined with street trees. With the large Hokka Centre nearby, it's an ideal spot for dining and sightseeing.

It is a place I would very much like to pay a courtesy visit to when I am in the vicinity.
